first_imgFORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – BC Hydro released more statistics on the number and residence of those working on the Site C dam project.According to the numbers released today, there were a total of 1,416 construction and environmental contractors working on the dam in June 2016. Of those, 1,136, or 80 percent were from B.C. 651 out of the over 1,400 workers, or 46 percent were Peace River Regional District residents.Looking at the 389 engineers and project staff also working on the dam, 358 of them, or 92 percent hailed from B.C., though BC Hydro did not include or note statistics on which areas of the province they hail from. The project team includes consultants, BC Hydro Construction Management, and other offsite Site C project staff.- Advertisement -That means that of the total 1,805 staff and contractors working on the Site C dam, 36 percent have been confirmed to be residents of the Peace River Regional District. That percentage could actually be higher, depending on the number of PRRD residents that are among the 358 British Columbian engineers and project staff.BC Hydro says that in the coming months and years, more jobs will be created as main civil works increases activities, and major contracts get underway for the various components of the dam.Hydro added in the release that “as with any construction project, the number of workers — and the proportion from any particular location — will vary month-to-month and also reflects the seasonal nature of construction work.”Advertisementlast_img read more
