‘Lofa 27 Health Workers Not Dismissed’

first_imgAuthorities of the Ministry of Health (MOH) have stated that at no time did they dismiss 27 health workers assigned in Lofa County. Their clarification comes in the wake of claims recently from the Secretary General of the National Health Workers Association of Liberia (NHWAL) that the Ministry has dismissed some health workers in that county.According to Mr. Sorbor George, MOH Communications Director, a few weeks ago the Ministry requested those health workers to report to the central office with written accounts explaining their alleged abandonment of duties.Mr. George said the request for the health workers to report to the central office followed complaints by the Lofa County Health Team that the workers had abandoned their duties for no justifiable reason. He explained that some of the health workers have since held meetings with the Minister of Health, Dr. Bernice Dahn, and were told that an administrative hearing committee will be set up to look into the written accounts and make the necessary recommendations for action. He said it was unfortunate that the health workers would abandon their duties to the detriment of the people who they took oaths to serve – an action they knew the Ministry would not tolerate.Mr. George meanwhile reaffirmed the Health Ministry’s commitment to improving the conditions of service for health workers across the country. He said it was based on such a commitment that the Ministry is working hard to construct housing units for health workers across the country and has furthermore employed additional workers.
