first_imgThe president of the Liberian Business Association (LIBA), Dee-Maxwell S. Kemayah, said in spite of that the country continues to boast  of 16 billion United States dollars of foreign direct investment; poverty remains high in all sectors of the society.“As owner of these natural resources, Liberians should not be beggars, but should be direct beneficiaries of their country’s wealth,” Kemayah said. The LIBA boss spoke recently at the signing ceremony of Chevron Liberia Economic Development sponsored training project for Liberia National Tailors Textile Garment and Allied Workers Union in Paynesville outside Monrovia.According to him, Liberia can only make a change if Liberians support each other’s businesses. He said that Liberians need to promote locally made clothing in order to empower tailors and seamstresses in the country, and as such it is important for the Government of Liberia to create market environment for the Tailors Union by giving them 25 percent of security uniforms to be made by local tailors.Mr. Kemayah also stressed the need for more investment in the private sector; something he said will help to transform Liberia.“I am also urging Liberians to rise up and fight poverty collectively from the country and by engaging themselves into business”.LIBA boss further asserted that Liberia can make a change if Liberians support each other’s businesses. He also warned the Tailor Union to respect the implementation of the signed document with Chevron-Liberia, calling on them to make use of the funding. We as Liberian Business Association will fully monitor the agreement to ensure that it yields the needed impact in the Liberia economics.Mean while, the Liberian Business Association boss also use the occasion to thanked Chevron Liberia for the initiative with a repeated call for foreign investors to emulate the example of Chevron-Liberia.He reiterated that poverty remains a major challenge to the economic growth of Liberia noting that solutions can only be found if all citizens are willing to freely fight for success.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
