Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool froze at Man Utdby Paul Vegas4 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveLiverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes they froze at Manchester United for Sunday’s 1-1 draw.Jurgen Klopp’s Reds needed a late Adam Lallana equaliser to rescue a point at Old Trafford after Marcus Rashford’s first-half goal looked to have earned a deserved victory for the struggling Red Devils.Speaking during the game, Carragher told Sky Sports: “I always talk about Everton having almost a mental block when they come to Anfield, and watching Liverpool here, it’s almost like it’s a mental block.”It’s not the same team you usually watch.”I said before the game, United away is always a tough game and you can lose it but it’s the performance more than the scoreline that is the biggest worry for Liverpool. Every time they come to Old Trafford, it is the same problems.”He added: “I think Liverpool will be delighted. It’s very difficult for any team to come to Old Trafford, it’s a derby game and their record is not great here.”It almost feel like certain Liverpool players have a mental block when they come here so to get out with one point, considering how they performed, I think Klopp will be pleased.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say
YouTube/Ben WaitWith the graduation of star quarterback Dak Prescott, Mississippi State is one of many SEC programs with a battle at the position on its hands. Four players—Nick Fitzgerald, Elijah Staley, Nick Tiano, and Damian Williams—are vying for the starting job, and no player has set himself apart.Mississippi State’s QBs are so close, in fact, that they had to play ‘rock, paper, scissors’ to determine which would take first team reps. Today’s winner: Fitzgerald. He spoke about the unique process after today’s practice.Video via Ben Wait of The Dispatch:Fitzgerald joked that the rock, paper, scissors win gave him a nice confidence boost heading into camp.“I won rock-paper-scissors, so if anything, my confidence in that game is pretty high right now.”Rock, paper, scissors skills aside, replacing Prescott will be no easy task for Fitzgerald, or whichever Bulldog quarterback wins the job. He may be the top quarterback in program history. In 2015, he put together a fantastic 3,793 passing yard, 29 touchdown, five interception season. On top of that, Prescott ran for 588 yards and 10 touchdowns. That built on an impressive junior year, when Prescott piled up 4,435 total yards and 38 combined touchdowns.Williams is the lone Mississippi State quarterback with a start under his belt. During his career, Williams is 37-for-70 for 434 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. In 2015, head coach Dan Mullen redshirted him.Last season, Fitzgerald served as Prescott’s primary back-up. He completed 11-of-14 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns, with no interceptions.Elijah Staley threw five passes last season, completing three for 51 yards and a score.Redshirt freshman Nick Tiano is the only of the four players without any game experience, making him the wild card of the battle.Williams and Fitzgerald seem like the favorites in this one, but it will take more than rock, paper, scissors skills to compete with the likes of Alabama and rival Ole Miss in the SEC West.[Saturday Down South]
Kirk Herbstreit’s predictions for the 2016 College Football Playoff field feature three unsurprising picks, and one darkhorse.College football fans are used to Kirk Herbstreit’s predictions. The ESPN personality updates his college football playoff field on a weekly basis during the season. Today, he dropped his preseason CFP forecast.Appearing on ESPN Radio’s Russillo and Kanell, Herbstreit revealed the four teams he has making this year’s College Football Playoff: Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State are locked in, and he’s close to certain on TCU being the fourth team.Clemson: “I’m going to have Clemson, who I think’s going to go on to win the championship. That has everything to do with one guy. I hate to put it all on him, but Deshaun Watson, to me, is just a freak.”Alabama: “I would pick Alabama out of the SEC, because of another one guy. That is Nick Saban.”Ohio State: “I think Ohio State still comes out of the Big Ten. I think J.T. Barrett, despite all their [personnel] losses, will kind of allow Ohio State to be able to maneuver through their schedule and get there to win a Big Ten Championship.”TCU: “Those three I feel pretty good about. The fourth team I think I’m going to go TCU out of the Big 12. It’s either a Pac-12 team or TCU. Right now, I’m leaning towards TCU as my fourth team to get in.”We suppose Herbie could change his mind on the Horned Frogs before he tapes his annual “Herbie” awards show. However, he was probably the only guy picking Oklahoma to make the CFP in the preseason last year, so he’s been right before going off the beaten path.College football fans, how do you feel about Herbstreit’s predictions? Did he nail them, or is he way off?

ARLINGTON, TX – JANUARY 12: Ohio State Buckeyes players hold their helmets on the sideline during the College Football Playoff National Championship Game at AT&T Stadium on January 12, 2015 in Arlington, Texas. (Photo by Tom Pennington/Getty Images)Ohio State and Penn State are less than two hours away from kicking off at Beaver Stadium. This one should be awesome.Penn State is holding its annual “White Out” game, which means the crowd will be in a frenzy. Both teams are ranked in the top 10, and the winner will be the early leader in the Big Ten East race. The last time these teams played in State College was two years ago, and Penn State upset the Buckeyes 24-21. However, Ohio State has won seven of the last 10 and 12 of the last 16 matchups between the two schools.Former OSU wide receiver Michael Thomas wants to make sure Penn State fans are aware of these facts. He does not consider this series a rivalry, and he said so on Twitter.https://twitter.com/Cantguardmike/status/1046156385661202432The Buckeyes may be the dominant team in this series, especially of late, but Penn State is dangerous tonight.James Franklin’s team has a potent offense, led by Miles Sanders and Trace McSorley, and they will have the crowd behind them. With that being said, if Penn State can’t stop Ohio State’s own explosive offensive attack, it will be a long night for the Nittany Lions.Ohio State-Penn State kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.

(Photo by Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images)The Ohio State Buckeyes dealt with a decent amount of drama last year, which included plenty of rumors surrounding Urban Meyer. With Ryan Day now taking over as the head coach, let’s take a look at their schedule for the upcoming season.Ohio State’s three games out of its league will come against Florida Atlantic, Cincinnati and Miami of Ohio. All of these matchups will take place in Columbus at Ohio Stadium. While the beginning of the season won’t be extremely tough for the Buckeyes, they still scheduled a few solid matchups. The new coaching staff will start its tenure with a showdown against Lane Kiffin.Out of all the non-conference games on the schedule, the showdown with Cincinnati might be the most intriguing. After all, the Bearcats finished last season with an 11-2 record.Despite not having the most challenging start to the season, the Buckeyes will get their share of tests in the Big Ten.Here’s the entire slate for the 2019 season:August 31: vs. Florida Atlantic (in Atlanta)September 7: vs. CincinnatiSeptember 14: at IndianaSeptember 21: vs. Miami (OH)September 28: at NebraskaOctober 5: vs. Michigan StateOctober 12: ByeOctober 18: at NorthwesternOctober 26: vs. WisconsinNovember 2: ByeNovember 9: vs. MarylandNovember 16: at RutgersNovember 23: vs. Penn StateNovember 30: at MichiganThis isn’t too grueling of a schedule for Ohio State, but the final month of the season doesn’t do the program any favors. It’s very likely that the last game of the regular season could decide the Big Ten. Considering how easily the Buckeyes won this matchup last season, the Wolverines will certainly be searching for revenge.

India Today Web Desk MelbourneDecember 28, 2018UPDATED: December 28, 2018 16:41 IST Pat Cummins rocked India’s top-order by picking up four wickets in the final session of Day 3 (AP Photo)HIGHLIGHTSIndia lead Australia by 346 runs but rain is predicted in Melbourne for the next two daysPat Cummins said if Australia could dismiss India early on Saturday, anything was possibleCummins said it would be difficult for India to move the game forward on Day 4India might be way ahead of Australia in the Boxing Day Test but Pat Cummins is not willing to give up hope after he picked up 4 for 10 off 6 overs to reduce the formidable visitors to 54 for 5.India have a mammoth lead of 346 but the Cummins spell is the kind of inspiration that a team under pressure some time needs. Virat Kohli chose not to declare despite a 292-run lead. The decision surprised some – Allan Border felt the Aussies might even come back into the game. There were, of course, several reasons India did not want to enforce that follow-on. For starters, they may not have been too keen on batting last on a pitch that has kept batsmen on tenterhooks with its variable bounce. Then there’s the workload for the pacers to consider. Many feel India already have enough runs on the board and they should start thinking of the time. On paper, India have two full days, enough time to force a result. But rain is predicted over the weekend – will India be robbed of an opportunity to secure a historic win? India have never won a Boxing Day Test in Australia and this is a golden opportunity to rewrite history.Cummins wants Australia to draw inspiration from the tame draw against England last year but the nature of the pitch is different now. A result is certain unless rain comes to Australia’s rescue.”I am pretty tired, exhausted but the good thing is that coming into this series I felt really fresh. Hopefully, there won’t be too many overs tomorrow and we won’t have to bowl last in this game. So hopefully there will be a 4-5 day break before Sydney,” Cummins said. “If we knock them over in the morning, you just never know. We tried to make it very hard for every run. The wicket is still pretty good, tough to score runs. But we saw last year we batted really well on day four and five (at the MCG), you dare to dream.advertisement”But it’s still a long way left in the game. For India to move the game forward will be hard Saturday. They will have to bat long and we will just take it as deep as possible,” he said.’Australia need to learn from Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara’Pat Cummins, who has batted doggedly down the order this series, said Australia’s batsmen need to learn from Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli, the two leading run-scorers in the series.”What we saw from India’s first innings, we saw temperament of Pujara and Virat and how they pace their innings. They absorb pressure because, on this kind of wicket, it is hard to score runs,” he said.”You have to face a lot of balls to get big scores and it is probably one of those wickets where you do the hard work early. Keep absorbing pressure and score later, but evidently, it did not work for us today.”Also Read | Jasprit Bumrah reveals Rohit Sharma suggested slower ball to Shaun MarshAlso Read | Indian players and fans racially taunted at MCG, sections of crowd warnedAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. A final call is expected to be taken by the evening. In case Dhoni is unavailable, then Rishabh Pant is expected to don the big gloves. That is the most likely option in case Dhoni fails to get fit in time.If the team management is keen on checking all the fringe batting options, then KL Rahul and Ambati Rayudu could both play in the XI with Rahul keeping.India are aiming to bounce back in the five-match ODI series after losing both the T20s.Also Watch:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
