I didn’t have to look far,” says the legend Sangakkara as he thanks his parents for being with him throughout.”I am going to miss all the time in the dressing room, miss the times when we were chatting, speaking nonsense, speaking about cricket,” says Kumar Sangakkara. Sanga thanks all his coaches and his teammates.  Kumar Sangakkara thanks his school, Trinity College, for giving him a platform to excel.   And now it’s Sanga’s time with the mic on his hand. Sunil Gavaskar formally invites the batting legend to the ‘former cricketers club’.  “It is a moment of mixed-emotions,” says Indian batting icon Sunil Gavaskar. “Fairy-tale endings are not always possible,” he says. “But what you have achieved over the past 15 years is what is people are going to remember,” Gavaskar says. “I wish you an excellent second innings. I am sure your second innings will be as incredible as your first innings,” Gavaskar says.  advertisementSri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and President Maithripala Sirisena hand over mementos to Sanga. And the man keeps smiling and keeps collecting these mementos.  World Cup winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga presents a special memento to Sangakkara.  And this one is special. The autographed T-shirt from the Indian team has been handed over to Kumar Sangakkara by Virat Kohli.  The president of Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club presents a special memento to the left-handed batsman. The principal of Trinity College, the school from which Sangakkara graduated, appreciates the legend and presents a memento to him.    “He has truly been a phenomenon both on and off the field,” says Sri Lanka cricket chairman Sidath Wettimuny.Big names have graced the occasion. Arjuna Ranatunga and Sunil Gavaskar are part of the guests.   Special presentation ceremony for Kumar Sangakkara commences.  All Indian players have autographed a Test jersey that would be presented to the retiring legend Sangakkara.  Offspinner Ravichandran Ashwin has 12 wicket five-wicket haul from 27 matches. And it should feel great for Ashwin to have scalped Sanga’s wicket on all four occasions in this series.Kumar Sangakkara finishes his Test career with 12400 runs under his belt scored at a staggering average of 57.40.  Virat Kohli can’t stop himself from congratulating the retiring Sri Lanka batting icon Kumar Sangakkara one more time.  India captain Kohli acknowledges that he had come close to winning a match twice, once in Adelaide and once in Galle.   KL Rahul is the man of the match. Skipper Angelo Mathews thanks Kumar Sangakkara for the veteran’s contribution to Sri Lankan cricket.Ajinkya Rahane has been named the impact player for his brilliant 126 in the second innings.  Ravichandran Ashwin bags the most exciting player of the match award. Not to forget, this is India’s first Test win in more than a year.  And this is Virat Kohli’s first win as captain. He had to work hard for it. He came close on two previous occasions. The wrong one wins the match for India. Dushmanth Chameera didn’t offer a shot to the wrong one from Mishra and gets trapped lbw. SL 134 for 10. Lunch: There is good news for Indian fans, the rain has stopped at P Sara Oval.  And an early lunch has been taken in Colombo.  42.3 overs: Rain break. It’s pouring in Colombo. The players walk off the field. It was overcast from the morning and now the rain gods have opened up. Sri Lanka are one wicket away from losing the Test. SL 128 for 9. How well has Ashwin bowled in this series. His control has been excellent. He has figured out how to use his variations. He now has most wickets for an Indian in a Test series in Sri Lanka.  India four wickets away from leveling the series here.  35.3 overs: Out. It’s Ishant Sharma this time. Jehan Mubarak walks back without troubling the scorers. The ball was angling away from the left hander before taking the edge. Virat Kohli at second slip takes a good low catch. SL 111 for 6. 34.6 overs: Out. Ashwin strikes. Wonderful dip from the offspinner on that occasion. Lahiru Thirmanne came down the track and the ball hit his bat and Cheteshwar Pujara at silly point reacts quick to safely pouch it. SL 106 for 5.27.2 overs: Out. Chandimal bowled round the legs. Mishra tosses it up landing outside leg but of the pitch turned sharply to knock off the bails. Chandimal  couldn’t believe.21.1 overs: Out. What a start for India as Umesh Yadav strikes first ball of the day to get the big wicket of Angelo Mathews for 23 caught brilliantly by Lokesh Rahul behind the wickets. Sri Lanka lose their third wicket.Day 4 round-up: India remained strongly on course to equalise the three-match Test series as they reduced Sri Lanka to 72 for 2 in the latter’s pursuit of a 413-run target after the fourth day’s play.Earlier, India resumed the day at 70 for 1, and Ajinkya Rahane (126) scoring his fourth Test century and Murali Vijay (82) drove India to 325 for 8 – enabling the visitors to declare their innings in the post-tea session with a 412-run lead.Sri Lanka lost opening batsman Kaushal Silva (1) and Kumar Sangakkara (18) to offspinner Ravichandran Ashwin (2 for 27) to come under incredible pressure at the outset.When play was called for the day, skipper Angelo Mathews (23 not out) and opener Dimuth Karunaratne (25 not out) were at the crease for Sri Lanka, who need another 341 runs to win the fixture and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.Earlier, Rahane and Vijay struck a crucial 140-run second wicket partnership to put India 266 runs ahead of the hosts. Both Rahane and Vijay looked at ease in the morning session and runs came at a decent pace as compared to the evening session on Saturday where they were tested to the hilt.The Sri Lankan bowlers went for 73 runs in the first 15 overs of play as Vijay and Rahane played shots on both sides of the wicket.Offspinner Tharindu Kaushal gave the hosts the first success of the day when he trapped Vijay in front of the stumps. Tamil Nadu batsman Vijay, who registered his 11th Test fifty, departed after hitting four shots to the fence and two over it from 133 deliveries.Kaushal also dismissed skipper Virat Kohli (10) in similar fashion as India lost third wicket for 171 runs. Then, Mumbai batsman Rohit Sharma (34) and his Ranji team-mate Rahane joined hands to forge an 85-run stand for the fourth wicket that drove India to a commanding position.advertisementRahane showed a lot of patience and his different footworks against spinners – Rangana Herath and Kaushal helped him keep the scoreboard ticking regularly.
