That’s a soft dismissal and Yuvraj is livid with himself. Fuller ball on the pads, he nonchalantly flicks it powerfully but picks the fielder at mid-wicket. Lewis is the man and he takes the low catch with ease. It was a cracking shot but the placement went haywire. This is a good period for the hosts, they are able to stifle the run flow. This is a huge, huge wicket for West Indies. Bishoo floats it on middle and leg, Dhawan looks to turn it on the leg side but misses and gets rapped on the pads. The players appeal and after taking his time, umpire Dharamsena rules the Indian opener out. Shikhar has a chat with his skipper and then decides to go for the review. The Snicko doesn’t detect an edge and the Hawk Eye shows three reds. Dhawan has to walk back after playing a superb knock. He still will be disappointed not to convert it into three figures. Release shot! You can’t bowls such looseners to him and that too in the kind of form he is in. Shortish delivery, Dhawan latches onto it in a flash and pulls it over mid-wicket for half a dozen.20.17 IST: WICKET! Ajinkya Rahane departs for a well-played 62. Joseph draws first blood. Slower one on a fuller length, Rahane looks to loft it over mid on but the lack of pace does him in. He ends up chipping it straight to Holder at mid on, who after completing the catch throws the ball in the air in celebration. Much-needed breakthrough this for WI! They need more of these. India 132/1 (25 overs) vs West Indies20.12 IST: FOUR! In the gap! Another short delivery from Bishoo. He camps back and pulls powerfully through square leg. Rahane went after it, got an outside edge and the ball ran away to the third man fence. India 104/0 (21 overs) vs West Indies19.44 IST: Drinks break. Dhawan gets hit again, this time courtesy the fielder. Back of a length ball, he taps it to short cover as they go for a quick single. Powell’s throw at the bowler’s end hits Shikhar on the left elbow. The same region where he copped a blow few overs ago. Slight hold up as the physio comes out to attend to Dhawan. More of the magic spray then and a drink for the batsmen.18.59 IST: FOUR! INNOVATIVE FROM DHAWAN! Shortish and outside off, he stays back and jump a bit before slapping it over cover. A little bit of Caribbean flair in the stroke and clears the infield with ease. Almost went all the way for a biggie. India 31/0 (6.3 overs) vs West Indies18.56 IST: FOUR! First boundary for Rahane. He’s been slow to start but this should ease his nerves a bit. Shortish outside off, he stands tall and punches it sweetly square of the wicket on the off side to find the fence. Sublime shot. India 27/0 (6 overs) vs West Indies18.50 IST: Back of a length around middle, Dhawan gets back to work across the line but is hit on the forearm as the ball goes to the off side. He must have got hurt a bit there. Dhawan calls for the physio who comes out with the magic spray to ease the pain. That might have stung him for sure.18.44 IST: FOUR! Finds the fence! Once again width on offer and Dhawan pounces on it. On a good length but perhaps a bit wide outside off, he reaches out and flays it through point. Struck it well to get a boundary.18.37 IST: FOUR! SHOT! This man is in sublime form. Back of a length outside off, Dhawan stands tall and punches it elegantly through point. He absolutely loves that area, just cannot bowl there.18.31 IST: Wide! Their biggest stars do not play the Test and ODI formats. The 2006 Champions Trophy winners did not even qualify for the tournament this year and were confined to playing Afghanistan at home.To make matters worse, they lost an ODI and were forced to settle for a drawn series (after rain washed out the decider) while India dominated the Champions Trophy and reached the final.#TeamIndia members – @ajinkyarahane88 & @SDhawan25 sweating it out in the nets #WIvIND pic.twitter.com/QL1BZZ55QA- BCCI (@BCCI) June 23, 2017Both teams have had contrasting fortunes in the international arena. While India have gone from strength to strength, West Indies are struggling to stay relevant, especially with the rise of Afghanistan and Ireland. The series may appear to be devoid of relevance after the hoopla of the Champions Trophy but it does hold significance for both teams. While the West Indies would want to put up a sterling show against one of the strongest teams in world cricket, India have the chance to move up to No.2 in the ICC ODI rankings if they win the series 5-0.India might have a little more at stake here. After the recent resignation of Anil Kumble as coach following differences with the captain, Virat Kohli would want to show the team can go on without the former. Can they do it? Will they do it?AJINKYA RAHANE TO GET ANOTHER CHANCEVirat Kohli has confirmed India will open with Ajinkya Rahane in all the five ODIs. This is another lease of life for the gifted batsman. With Rohit Sharma being rested for the series, his Mumbai teammate Rahane would want to show his class in limited-overs cricket.WILL RISHABH PANT GET A LOOK-IN?India have three wicketkeepers on this tour – MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant. Obviously, Pant has been included to give him a feel of the Indian dressing-room but would it be fair to not give him a single game? He is the most exciting young batsman in the country and it would be interesting to see where Kohli can slot him in, if at all.SQUADS:WEST INDIES: Jason Holder(c), Devendra Bishoo, Jonathan Carter, Roston Chase, Miguel Cummins, Shai Hope(wk), Alzarri Joseph, Evin Lewis, Jason Mohammed, Ashley Nurse, Kieran Powell, Rovman Powell, Kesrick WilliamsINDIA: Virat Kohli(c), Ravichandran Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan, MS Dhoni(wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Ajinkya Rahane, Umesh Yadav, Yuvraj Singhlast_img
