Fuster Says Goodbye to Olympiacos After 6 Years

first_imgOlympiacos announced that they will not renew David Fuster’s contract after his one year deal ended at the end of this season. The Spaniard was with Olympiacos for six years and served as the team’s co-captain during the last few seasons. Additionally, Esteban Cambiasso’s contract will not be extended after his one year stay with the Greek Champions.Fuster signed with Olympiacos in 2010, moving from Spanish club Villarreal. He was a “personal choice” of Ernesto Valverde, who coached Fuster at Villarreal, as Valverde held his second managerial position at Olympiacos. He had a great first season in Piraeus with 33 appearances and 13 goals. Each season at Olympiacos, he was an integral part of the team and scored important goals in both Greece and Europe. In Olympiacos’ run to last 16 of the 2012 Europa League, Fuster scored the winning goal away to Rubin Kazan and Metalist Kharkiv. In the 2014 Champions League, Fuster scored  in Olympiacos’ 3-1 win over Arsenal in the final matchday of the group stage and Olympiacos progressed to the last 16. In his 6 seasons in Greece, Fuster had 111 appearances with 29 goals and was the co-captain of the team since 2014. Olympiacos’ fans grew to love Fuster for his commitment, passion, and work ethic for the club. Via Facebook, Fuster posted a heart-felt thank you to Olympiacos for everything and mentioned that we will never forget the fans or his experience with the Erythrolefki.Along with Fuster, Esteban Cambiasso will not be wearing the Red and White jersey next season. Cambiasso joined Olympiacos last season, from Leicester City, and had 21 appearances and 14 goals with the club. According to Goal News, Marco Silva does not want “old” players in his side, in hopes of increasing the team’s speed and endurance in comparison to last season.
